HCAI Features in Ontario's 2011 - 2012 Budget

As part of Ontario’s 2011-12 budget delivered by Finance Minister Dwight Duncan on March 29, 2011, the Ontario Government announced it will work to combat insurance fraud that increases costs and leads to higher premiums. HCAI was mentioned in the budget as a tool the Government will use with the insurance industry to detect potentially fraudulent activity.

HCAI is an electronic transaction platform that passes Ontario Claim Form (OCF) information related to motor vehicle collisions between insurers and health care businesses. HCAI is approved by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario to collect health care data from the OCF treatment plans.

The Health Claims Data Base (HCDB), which is a separate product from HCAI, takes anonymized data from the HCAI system to establish health care outcomes from approved OCF treatment plans. The HCDB will provide reporting that allows for separate analysis of the health claim lifecycle.
